Simplicity Vending
a business that’s SWEET AND SIMPLE
by Simplicity Vending, last updated on 2nd April 2012
It might look like selling lollies the easy way, but the returns prove Simplicity Vending is a serious business
Steve Sartin and his wife Leigh share the same desires as many other young couples with children: to spend less time working, and more time as a family. The difference is, Steve and Leigh made it happen. They created Simplicity Vending and since they started licensing the business four years ago, they have helped many others achieve the same goal. ‘And we still have time for long weekends at the beach,’ grins Steve, a former high school teacher.
Simplicity Vending is a straightforward business concept involving robust, unsophisticated vending machines that dispense popular confectionery brands such as M&M’s. ‘The advantages of using machines that don’t involve electronics are obvious,’ says Steve. ‘I’ve had mine working for me for eight years now and they are pretty much indestructible. They are solid, coin-operated slot machines that need minimal maintenance and best of all work 24 hours a day without pay. They don’t take up a lot of time – licensees are always surprised just how easy it is to service 25 machines in less than a day, and often they only have to do that once a month! This really is a lifestyle business – and it’s one that can make 20-40% return on your capital.’
Steve suggests that a lot of people going into business for the first time are a bit scared of the sales process. ‘That’s understandable, but Simplicity really is a turn-key operation; I do the initial set up and sales with new licensees. I’ve found all the original sites for all ten licensees so far. I take them out with me as part of the training programme, and by the end of that they understand how simple it is to sell our service. I’m no super salesman – it’s just that the machines offer a service that customers and employees alike really appreciate, so placing them in premises is incredibly easy.’
Flexible, Part-Time, Steady Cash Business
As a part-time business, Simplicity Vending has been greatly appreciated for its flexibility by licensees. ‘We have everyone from high-powered restaurateurs to PhD students taking advantage of the low input, high returns Simplicity offers to get them through their studies or a gap in their career,’ Steve says. ‘What I am looking for are more people like that, people who are prepared to make a long-term investment in a steady cash-flow business. Some people come to me with the unrealistic idea that it’ll make a ton of money overnight. That’s not true, but getting 20-40% return is a whole lot better than you’ll get from the bank, the share-market or property at present. You won’t lose money on this and it’s wholly realistic to generate between $2-8000 income per month, depending on how many machines you have.’
And the business offers the ability to start small and build, too. ‘When we began, I kept my teaching job until the business was properly established and I was comfortable it was going to support our young family,’ Steve recalls. ‘Being a cash business meant we had no bad debts, invoicing or credit control to worry about. The same applied to advertising costs, and the only premises we required was our home. We avoided most of the worst paperwork businesses get bogged because there are no employees, and we can guarantee repeat business by stocking popular brands which are always in demand, easily affordable and, of course, heavily advertised globally.
Even our locations are perfectly flexible. You can experiment with slightly different positions – even moving a machine just a few feet can make all the difference to its effectiveness – or, if a location isn’t performing, move the machine to a new one altogether. We learned a lot about maximising our return in the first few years and created a thriving business that allowed us to do all we wanted as a family. It’s those lessons we now pass on to licensees.’
Funding Available
Steve is looking for more licensees throughout the country. ‘I often get asked how selling lollies can be a serious business, especially with such un-flashy machines. I tell people to come and look at the business and see for themselves just how serious this can get. Some of our licensees have multiple machines out there making an extremely good passive income for them. There’s still room for a lot more, if you’re ready to take the plunge.
‘Selling treats at pocket-money prices means our market is as strong as ever, despite the effects of the recession and the worries about business confidence. But getting funding can still be tough so I’m offering a very good package: new licensees pay just $32,000+gst for 25 machines and I will finance up to 50% of that to qualified people. Like the return we offer, you won’t get that from your bank!
‘So if you’re looking for something that won’t break the bank and will give you back time to spend with your family, give me a call and find out more about Simplicity Vending. It changed our lives – now it can change yours.’
