FANZ Board loses only lawyer

by , last updated on 31st August 2010

Paul Brown of commercial cleaning franchisor Paramount Services has been elected to the Board of the Franchise Association, but sole legal representative David Foster lost his position.

There were five candidates for the three places and a surprise result saw vice chairman David Foster lose his place on the Board. The other candidates standing for re-election, Laurel McCulloch of Link Business Broking and Graeme Henderson of Meticulous Maids, were both re-elected.

David Foster is a specialist franchise lawyer with Harris Tate in Tauranga. He has been on the Association’s Board for eight years and was next in line for the chairmanship. Previously, chairmen have served a maximum of two years and current chairman Estelle Logan would have been due to stand down this year, but the term was extended to three years at the Association’s AGM on 1st August.

The election results mean that there is now no lawyer on the Association’s seven-person Board, and only one of the Board members - Brem Ellingham of Fastway Couriers (Napier) - is from outside Auckland.

Paul Brown’s election brings a hugely-experienced franchise name to the Board, with Paramount Services having won the Franchise System of the Year title in 2008. The Auckland-based company has over 100 franchisees in 25 cities and towns nationwide.

The new Board comprises four franchisors/master franchisees and three affiliates:

Paul Brown (managing director, Paramount Services - commercial cleaning)

Daniel Cloete (national franchise manager, Westpac - banking)

Brem Ellingham (managing director, Fastway Global - courier)

Graeme Henderson (franchisor, Meticulous Home Services - home cleaning)

Estelle Logan (national master franchisor for V.I.P. Home Services - lawnmowing & home cleaning)

Laurel McCulloch (business broker, Link Business - business broking)

Win Robinson (managing director, Franchize Consultants (NZ) Ltd - consulting.

The chairman will be elected at the first Board meeting following the AGM.
