Clean Planet - Small Footprint, Big Opportunity

Clean Planet

Clean Planet franchisees offer eco-friendly commercial cleaning

With carbon footprints increasingly finding their way on to the business pages, ‘going green' is on every company's agenda. Customers are starting to ask questions about environmental impacts and the auditing of supply chains means that even small companies have to prove their eco-credentials.

For Russell Werry, this all adds up to one thing - opportunity. ‘One of the most obvious areas of environmental concern is cleaning chemicals. There are plenty of commercial cleaning companies servicing New Zealand businesses, but not one of them specialises in eco-cleaning. The further I looked into it the clearer the opportunity became. There is an acknowledged demand for eco-friendly, sustainable cleaning products and an unfulfilled demand for a commercial cleaning company to use those products and provide a first-class service.'

A successful entrepreneur by nature, Russell has also been working in top-level business brokering so he had the drive, the ability and the contacts to take the idea further. After 18 months of research and development, Clean Planet was born. ‘The Clean Planet service is 100% eco-friendly and sustainably-focused,' says Russell. ‘We have taken a holistic approach to everything we do from top to bottom. All our products are sustainable and will have the minimum impact upon the environment. Uniforms, stationery, cleaning products are all carefully sourced and we have partnered with Toyota to provide the Prius Hybrid vehicle. That makes a clear and attractive statement of our credentials as well as being a great marketing tool.'

Clean Planet also aims to help educate clients. ‘We have a huge amount of knowledge to pass on,' says Russell. ‘We intend to provide advice and education as to how to integrate eco-friendly practices in a number of areas that will help businesses increase their own appeal, too. The result is a solid business platform that offers big opportunities to franchisees.'

Although Clean Planet has just been launched, the first three franchisees have already been appointed. ‘I'm pretty fussy,' says Russell, ‘and I do want franchisees with integrity and standards. We are looking for people who want to build a business on a unique opportunity - not people who are just buying jobs. We have structured the business around growth, so there is a flat royalty fee covering support and publicity. Furthermore, we guarantee a minimum $70,000 turnover per year.' Total investment is around $30,000 (including equipment and materials), with various lease options available on the all-important Toyota Prius.

Clean Planet is looking for more franchisees initially in the Auckland area. ‘Previous management experience could be useful, but if you are as keen as mustard and care about the planet, we can help you build a successful business of your own.'
