Dymocks Franchisee Wins Top Bookshop Award
by Simon Lord, last updated on 29th July 2009
Dymocks Booksellers in Newmarket, Auckland, has won the 2008 Group Bookshop of the Year Award at this year's New Zealand Booksellers Conference.
This is the second time the Newmarket store, owned by franchisee Anne Whelan, has taken home the Thorpe-Bowker Group Bookshop of the Year Award. Dymocks Wellington, owned by Bruce Caddy, received the runner-up award having previously won the category six times since 2000.
Dymocks General Manager, Andrew Howard, says the win is a fantastic result for Dymocks Newmarket and the network as a whole. All Dymocks stores in New Zealand are franchised.
‘It's the eighth time in eight years that a Dymocks store has won this coveted award and it shows Dymocks' commitment to providing the best customer service and enhancing Kiwis' reading habits,' he says. ‘New Zealand is a nation of booklovers and New Zealanders know that Dymocks is the store to go to to find the books they want. With two new Dymocks stores opening later this year, our network will have almost doubled in size in less than a year as we continue to support Kiwis and their love of reading.'
The New Zealand Booksellers Conference, which has been held annually since 1921, is one of the most important events on the New Zealand book trade calendar.
