Big Changes Due At Association

by , last updated on 5th July 2011

July 2011 - This month's election will see almost half the Franchise Association board change.

There will be a new look to the board of the Franchise Association later this month when three of the seven members stand down. There are seven candidates for the three places.

The three members not seeking re-election are:

  • Daniel Cloete of Westpac
  • Brem Ellingham of Fastway Couriers
  • Win Robinson of Franchize Consultants.

Daniel Cloete has been on the board since 2009. Brem and Win have served the Association for many years, with Win having been Chairman (1999-2001) and Brem being the current Vice Chairman.

The returning four board members are:

  • Estelle Logan – master franchisee, V.I.P. Home Services (board member since 2003)
  • Paul Brown – franchisor, Paramount Services (board member since 2010)
  • Graeme Henderson – franchisor, Meticulous Home Services & franchisee, Quinovic Property Management (board member since 2001)
  • Laurel McCulloch – business broker, Link Franchise (board member since 2008)

The new candidates are:

  1. Sean Dwyer - banker (National Bank)
  2. David Foster – lawyer (Harris Tate)
  3. Dean Madsen – banker (Westpac)
  4. Stephen Mansfield – master franchisee (Quest Serviced Apartments)
  5. Philip Morrison – accountant (Franchise Accountants)
  6. Ian Robertson – franchisor (Paper Plus)
  7. Warren Sare – banker (BNZ)

Who Will Be Chairman?

This year, the chairman of the Association Estelle Logan stands down after three years (the maximum period was changed from two years in 2010). With the decision of Brem Ellingham not to stand again, there is no-one with vice chairman experience ready to take on the position of chairman although lawyer David Foster, who is standing this year, was vice chairman from 2008-2010 having been on the board since 2003. The positions of chairman and vice chairman are elected by the board themselves rather than the general membership.

Stephen Mansfield was co-opted on to the board in May 2011 as an extra (eighth) member and is now standing for election for the first time. Ian Robertson is group franchise manager of Paper Plus. There are three bankers standing for election, along with one lawyer and accountant. There is currently no lawyer on the board, the first year this has happened since the Association was founded in 1996.
