BurgerFuel announces Abu Dhabi joint venture

by Media Release, last updated on 3rd November 2011

BurgerFuel Worldwide today announced its latest overseas development in the United Arab Emirates.

Auckland-based BurgerFuel Worldwide today announced its latest development in the United Arab Emirates, where its Master Licensee for that region will operate BurgerFuel stores in Abu Dhabi, under a joint venture agreement with the Abu Dhabi based Bin Hammoodah Group.

BurgerFuel's UAE partners, Al Khayat Investments, have joined with the Bin Hammoodah Group for the specific development of BurgerFuel stores in Abu Dhabi, on the back of the group’s existing real estate and property development operations.

The Bin Hammoodah Group is a substantial and long-standing company in Abu Dhabi where procurement of prime retail locations is difficult. Their wider group interests include industrial services, computer and communication, civil construction, real estate management and manufacturing. They also operate high profile brands in the area such as Chevrolet, GMC and Nortel Networks.

Abu Dhabi is considered the richest city in the world and is becoming the cultural capital of the Middle East with plans for the city’s own Louvre and Guggenheim museums already well under construction.

BurgerFuel CEO International Markets, Chris Mason, who is based in Dubai, said "this new joint venture overcomes the issue of site procurement for BurgerFuel.  Abu Dhabi is a very exciting city for us, but is not an easy one to access. It’s imperative that we have a local group and our existing partners who have far reaching relationships throughout the Gulf have formed this joint venture company with the sole intention of developing BurgerFuel outlets in Abu Dhabi."

Al Khayat investments who are wanting to step up their involvement with BurgerFuel and grow the brand faster in the UAE region have said that a site selection programme is now underway and is hopeful of securing sites in Abu Dhabi soon.

BurgerFuel Worldwide CEO, Josef Roberts, said that, 'We are making inroads into the MENA region; however, it’s always important that we have the right partners  to achieve sustainable growth, as well as those who are passionate and committed to the BurgerFuel brand. This move will see us expand into Abu Dhabi under an ideal partnership structure.'
